Traveling
Restriction Update:
Below you will find a letter from
Chris Franson at the MSHSL regarding the
June
ruling by the Board of Directors to restrict travel. Notice
that the ruling does NOT apply to the fine arts and speech.
Rick Purrington
MSCS President
To: Activities Directors,
Fine Arts Coaches and Directors
From: Chris Franson -
Assistant Director
Subject: Travel
Restrictions: Bylaw 410
The MSHSL Board of
Directors, at the
June
Board Meeting, approved strict enforcement of existing bylaw
410. Bylaw 410 states that a sanction form is required for
out-of-state travel of more than 600 miles round trip from the
school site, and it must be submitted to the League office a
minimum of 30 days before the event. The Board recommended
that: "Other than Minnesota's bordering states and Canadian
provinces, out-of-state travel will be denied if the distance
exceeds the 600 mile round trip from the school site."
The MSHSL Fine Arts
activities are only governed by select bylaws in the 100 and 200
series. Since Bylaw 410 does not apply to Fine Arts, the new
enforcement of Bylaw 410 does not apply to Fine Arts activities.
Travel for Fine Arts activities is still up to the discretion of
the individual school administration.
Athletic activities can
still participate in contests in bordering states (North& South
Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa) and Canadian Provinces (Manitoba and
Ontario) regardless of how far the school travels. Schools
could also travel to non-bordering states for contests if the
round trip mileage is less than 600 miles.
If you have any questions
about the policy or the Bylaw, please don't hesitate to contact
me or Dave Stead at the League Office at
763-560-2262.

At the SAC meeting the dates for 2009
